Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Review | GameFront

Added: 04.05.2013 23:17 | 8 views | 0 comments

GameFront: "Blood Dragons distinctive concept provides some lively visuals and some funny jokes. But in its rush to cash in on the popularity of Far Cry 3 and the popularity of 80s nostalgia in gaming in a general (and after Hotline: Miami in particular), Ubisoft released a game that lacks the cohesion between tone, art direction, and gameplay required to make it truly memorable. Its a good gimmick perhaps at that price point, a great one but its still a gimmick."

Weekly Recap May 4th: River City Ransom Sequel, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon, 2K Bows Out Of E3

Added: 04.05.2013 20:47 | 11 views | 0 comments

This is the week that Ubisoft unleashed the Blood Dragon onto the world and we loved them for it. We also got wind of a new River City Ransom sequel, hopefully it's better than the one where our heroes had to break out of prison and beat the living spittle out of those old, nasty, evil teachers. And a few more studios bow out of presenting at E3 this year.

MTV- Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Review

Added: 04.05.2013 17:18 | 15 views | 0 comments

MTV:"Blood Dragon" in a lot of ways is a perfect way to experience vanilla "Far Cry 3" without getting too invested. For 15 bucks (1200 MS Points), Ubisoft smartly detatches the main game and narrative threads of an island hopping, male power fantasy featuring a douchey 20 something for... a male power fantasy featuring a retro throwback of douchey action star. A mouthy look at some of the best (and worst) of what 80's and 90's action movies had to offer -- it's that mid-afternoon cable movie that you've just woken up to after passing out drunk on the couch, bathed in the dim glow of your TV set. Shirtless and confused, you stumble for the remote to turn it off but something compels you to perervere through your stupor because you just saw the most kickass and ridiculous action sequence of any action movie worth its salt.

Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon for PS3 is an Ode to '80s Cheese (2D-X)

Added: 04.05.2013 16:20 | 4 views | 0 comments

We cant let the 80s go. The remakes and sequels to movies from that era like Miami Vice, Die Hard, and Tron are proof enough. Then, somewhere along the way, our nostalgia for that decadent decade gave rise to neo-80s, a mini-movement in film, music, and games that repackages the neon colors and synthesized soundtracks into new experiences. Ryan Goslings 2011 crime film Drive, with its flamingo font and electro-pop score, may be the mainspring of this new sub-genre. Since then, games like Double Dragon Neon, Hotline Miami, and Retro City Rampage emerged, almost certainly inspired by Drive and our collective memory of VHS tapes and NES carts. As a fan of action movies with practical effects, electro synth, and 8-bit games and everything I just name-dropped in this intro Id love to see more games (and media in general) recapture that style. Like closely-related cyberpunk, which materialized in the 80s and was codified by works like 1982s Blade Runner, these tropes and a...

Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon XBLA Review - All Age Gaming

Added: 04.05.2013 16:17 | 10 views | 0 comments

AAG's Tyler writes: "Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon really shouldnt work. It feels like a condensed AAA blockbuster with all the bells and whistles one usually sees in a retail release. It is a huge love letter to 80s pop culture that only a small number of people will truly enjoy. It has been released as its own self-contained experience with no connections to Far Cry 3 proper in either narrative or requirement on behalf of the player. Yet, like a giant robot dragon with rocket launchers in its claws, it has so much bombastic charm and explosive energy that it helps you overlook the questionable plausibility of it all."

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Overview I Expansive

Added: 04.05.2013 11:19 | 4 views | 0 comments

The most unusual thing about Blood Dragon is that Ubisoft insist it is related to Far Cry 3. How these games match up is anyones guess. Fortunately, this confusion is a secret weapon for Blood Dragon. It plays in a slightly familiar way to one of last years most beloved games, but it has a finesse and gameplay style that is unlike anything else out there right now. Rex Colt is a cyborg enhanced soldier developed from pasts future and falls somewhere between Kano and Jax in terms of his look, but is full of puns that would make an 80s Schwarzenegger blush.

Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon Review | Bag of Games

Added: 04.05.2013 11:19 | 7 views | 0 comments

Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon is a celebration of the most bombastic movies of the 1980's. It's a salute to such venerated names as Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Van Damme, Siegal and Lundgren. It faithfully captures the over-the-top sequences of some of the most action packed and hammy movies every to be released on VHS cassette tape.
